Within a remote, richly varied corner of the continental United States, Washing-

When to go: Drive is popular year-round, but best from April to October

Sekiu,PortTownsend,Brinnon,Hoquiam,Kalaloch,and(duringsummer)atLakeCres-
cent and Sol Duc Hot Springs
Words to the wise: Bring adequate rain gear for hiking and camping. When beach
walking, consult a tide table.
Nearby attractions: The Space Needle (offering dramatic views of Puget Sound, the
Olympic Range, and Mt. Rainier), Seattle; Victoria, British Columbia (ferry departs
from Port Angeles)
