1. International Peace Garden
This botanical garden, which spans the boundary between the United States and Canada,
serves as a gateway to Manitoba's western region and its forests, lakes, and rolling plains.
Located on the 49th Parallel just north of the small farming community of Dunseith, North
Dakota, the gardens boast more than 150,000flowers in the formal garden alone—about the
same number of international visitors that pass through the large wooden gates each year.
Established in 1932 as a symbol of peace between the two nations, which share the
world's longest unfortified border, the garden encloses more than 2,000 acres of manicured
flower beds and natural woodlands, as well as a conservatory with a diverse collection of
