Flaming Gorge Getaway

driveneverveersfarfromitscenterpiece—amassivereservoirmorethan90miles
in length. Surrounding its captured waters, mountains, forests, canyonlands, and
desert are all part of this tour.
Length: About 130 miles, plus side trips
When to go: Pleasant at any time of year, but winters often close roads at higher eleva-
tions.
Nearby attraction: Steinaker State Park, north of Vernal
Lodgings: Reservations are necessary in summer.

Barely 8,800 people live in Vernal, but in this corner of Utah, that makes for a metropolis.
