Heading north, Trans-Canada 1 crosses the Bow River, signaling the approach to the Ice-
fields Parkway. Lake Louise lies about 3 miles west of the village, cradled below Mt.
Temple and Victoria Glacier, which feeds the lake and gives the water its semi-opaque col-
or. The lake is one of the most photographed lakes in the world and serves as a touchstone
