Sand Dunes
Some14squaremilesofduneslietotheeastofStovepipeWellsVillage.Thehighest,most
dramatic of them are found right along Rte. 190. There are no trails to follow; hikers are
free to roam at random.
The best time to see the dunes is in the morning or late afternoon, when the air is cool,
thelightisgentle,andtheshadowsarelong,accentuatingthedunes—intricate,wind-sculp-
ted forms.
