POINT SUR LIGHTHOUSE AND STATE
HISTORIC PARK
Point Sur Lighthouse, on the National Register of Historic Places, sits on a volcanic
rock 361 feet above the Pacific Ocean, 19 miles south of Carmel on Rte. 1. Erected
in 1889, the lighthouse has stayed in continuous operation since, and is the only com-
plete lighthouse of its era open to the public in California. Visitors can take walk-
ing tours, but for a unique experience, Point Sur Lighthouse also conducts moon-
light tours between April and October. Check the Point Sur Lighthouse website at
www.pointsur.org for a schedule.
