Battlestar Galactica and Spimatic
Meaning in Games
So say we all.
Admiral William Adama, Battlestar Galactica
he four ships circled each other, each pilot warily surveying the space around
him. Each had lown from the Galactica on a routine training mission around a
black hole and a purple planet. All was going according to plan until the Galactica
sighted a disabled and abandoned Cylon Raider loating in space. he Cylons—
robotic enemies of the human race, perpetrators of the destruction of the human
homeworlds—were nowhere in sight and so the abandoned ship represented

threatened the continued existence of humankind. For each of the pilots, the
mission suddenly changed—instead of routine training, each pilot would now
simulate combat, as each was encouraged to ight the others to acquire the Cylon
vessel (using only a simulation of combat, of course). Now in competition with
each other, the four Viper pilots must use all three commands at their disposal—
turbo thrust, force ield, and laser torpedo—to bring the Raider back to the

type of traitor: one that cannot be identiied. Cylon spies might attempt to disrupt
the workings of Galactica , reduce the food or fuel supply, or siphon the morale
of the crew. To make matters even worse, many of these Cylon spies do not even
know they are Cylons. President Laura Roslin until recently thought that she was
a human, but she draws a card halfway through the game that reveals her true
