In-Depth Information
In order to ensure that systems run 24/7 the enterprise should make sure that systems are in
place for monitoring operating systems, application systems, servers, network equipment,
telephone systems, and other systems which have been implemented by the enterprises.
Lack of monitoring systems would result in having systems which suddenly stop working
without warning. Where systems are monitored, administrators can use dashboards to mon-
itor systems which are in production and produce timely reports. The systems can also be
configured to send timely alerts to administrators to facilitate prompt action.
IT management would provide a list of monitoring systems they have in place. Typically in
highly automated environments, the IS auditor would find a single dashboard used to mon-
itor all systems used in the enterprises.
The evidence the IS auditor would obtain includes a list of monitoring systems and asso-
ciated procedures used to support the systems. Data generated by the monitoring systems
can be used as evidence that the systems are working and have been implemented. The IS
auditor can also use the data to assess if the monitoring systems are working efficiently and
providing correct data.
