plan. The enterprise is required to hold training sessions in order to ensure that the team is
able to respond appropriately when a disaster is declared.
Communication is an important tool in the management and implementation of a disaster
recovery plan. The enterprise should ensure that contact information for all members of the
team is up to date and is constantly updated. Information for DRP team members should
always be readily available, such as phone numbers, email addresses, residential addresses,
and one or two social media contacts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp.
Practice sessions or drills covering various areas of disaster recovery should be conducted
at periodic intervals. In some enterprises, drills are conducted once per year or more often
where users need more preparedness to handle delicate disasters. Practice sessions should
involve all key people in the enterprise including users who might be impacted by the dis-
aster.
The IS auditor is required to document all his findings and advise management on the ef-
fectiveness of the plan. Auditing a DRP is quite an involving task and might require the use
of more than one auditor to complete the task in time. The use of a project plan would help
to ensure that the audit is properly managed.
