In-Depth Information
road, lack of disabled access to public transport and very few wheelchair-accessible hotel
rooms mean the only way to have an enjoyable time would be to come on a tour catering
specifically for travellers with disabilities - and these don't exist.
The following companies and organisations can give advice on travel for those with dis-
abilities, though their knowledge of facilities in Ukraine will be very limited.

Visas
An attempt by Party of the Regions MPs to force through a law which would have seen
the reintroduction of visas for those who currently don't need them seems to have fizzled
out. Citizens of the EU, Canada, the USA, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Andorra,
Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, South Korea and the Vatican can stay without visas
for up to 90 days, for now at least. Citizens of most other countries, and anyone intending
to work, study, take up permanent residency or stay for more than 90 days, will require a
visa.
Other matters related to visas:
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine ( www.mfa.gov.ua ) Offers a complete list of em-
bassies.
Letters of invitation These are technically needed for all visas, although this is more of a
formality these days.
Validity Single- and double-entry visas can be bought for one to six months. Multiple-
entry visas are valid for three to 12 months.
Visa types Business, tourist and private, with single, double and multiple entries avail-
able.
Visa Extensions
Department of Citizenship, Passport & Immigration ( 044 224 9051; bul Tarasa
Shevchenka 34, Kyiv; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri) If you're staying for longer than three
months on a tourist visa or six months on a business visa, or if you want to extend your
visa, you'll need to visit this office. The process is a bureaucratic ordeal that's best
avoided if at all possible. Take a friend or helper along if you don't speak Russian or
Ukrainian.
