inexpensive apartments in the city centre to primarily foreign clientele.
Menorah Hostel HOSTEL$

( www.menorahostel.com ; vul Sholom-Aleykhema 4/26; dm 140uah; ) Cramped it is not. After
all the converted-apartment hostels it is a sheer delight to enter the immaculately white
corridor with high ceilings and large wooden doors on the 5th floor of the Menorah
Centre (elevator is inside the shopping arcade). Perhaps too sterile and businesslike, it is
still one of the best hostels we've seen in Ukraine.

river about a 15-minute walk from the city centre, this 11-storey concrete block is not a
bad option for the price. Look past its Soviet husk and the loud furniture and you'll find
surprises like toothbrushes, colourful soaps, minibars and comfy foam mattresses, even
in the economy rooms. Air-con is by request.
Most-City Apartments APARTMENT$$$

( 098 825 3162; vul Hlinki 2; studios 500-800uah) It is not really a hotel but a set of nicely
furnished studio apartments in one of the city's highest business towers. More expensive
ones comes with great views of the river and city. Considering the central location, it is
very good value. Breakfast isn't included. Enter from vul Plekhanova.

Soviet-realist art need look no further than this museum-like hotel. The walls in the
lobby and corridors are covered in brilliant paintings epitomising the best of the genre.
While the service is outstanding, the rooms (which, curiously, bear Cézanne prints) are
simply average. Breakfast in the Deja Vu restaurant downstairs is a highlight.
