office in the entrance is open in the afternoons only.

The park across the street from Uspensky Cathedral
offers the best vantage point of the striking red-and-cream striped cathedral down in the
valley, built in 1881 to 1901. Based on Istanbul's Hagia Sophia, it has a beautifully pro-
portioned bell tower resembling a stick of candy.

If you don't fancy bagging a bunk in one of the city's itinerant hostels, budget beds are
hard to come by in business-oriented Kharkiv.

cheaper, barely renovated rooms that those on a budget will be interested in. If you've
hryvnya to squander, there are more characterful sleeps in town.
