Sleeping
Mini-Hotel Sinay GUESTHOUSE$
( 508 313; www.hotels.poltava.ua ; vul Zinkivska 11/31; s/d from 140/220uah; ) Six-room
guesthouse a short walk from Kyivsky train station offering small, European standard
rooms for Ukrainian countryside prices. Rooms are kept sparkling, breakfast costs an ex-
tra 20uah and bathrooms are shared.
Palazzo Hotel HOTEL$$$
( 611 205; www.palazzo.com.ua ; vul Gogolya 33; s/d from 580/780uah; ) This is
the place for people travelling on a medium-range budget to enjoy four-star luxury (well,
almost). The attractive king-size beds have firm mattresses that will have your back feel-
ing like butter after a lengthy snooze. That and the suave, tawny-toned design almost
make up for the small size of the allegedly smoke-free rooms.
Hotel Galereya HOTEL$$$
( 561 697; www.hotel.pl.ua ; vul Frunze 7; s/d 430/640uah; ) Slap bang in the city
centre, Galereya's location is not the only thing that makes this friendly sleepery worth
checking out. Rooms are of a recent ilk, perfectly dust free and modestly furnished.
Bathrooms are large and some even have bidets, objects which must have a few members
of Ukraine's nouveau riche scratching their heads. Breakfast can be taken in bed and is
included - there's even an English menu.
Eating & Drinking
Be sure to sample the local delicacy, halushky - unfilled dumplings with various rich
toppings. The Hotel Palazzo's restaurant does a good rendition.
