In-Depth Information
(pr Myru 20; mains 30-50uah; noon-midnight Sun-Thu, to 1am Fri & Sat; ) A vaguely Cent-
ral European cellar pub with chatty waiters who like to show their proficiency in foreign
languages (mostly German). Meat in all shapes dominates the menu. Just off Krasna pl.
Senator EUROPEAN$$$
(vul Magistratska 1; dishes 30-60uah; 11am-1am) Shashlyks (shish-kebabs), steaks and beer
are great in this vaguely Wild West-themed restaurant, but while no one complains about
the food here there are those who grumble about the prices and service. Actually on
Krasna pl.
Information
Chernihiv has yet to take the intrepid step of opening a tourist office, though it does have
a snazzy tourism logo and a Russian-language tourism website
( www.chernihivtourist.com.ua ) . Useful pocket atlases (12.50uah) are available from the
news kiosk at the marshrutka stop opposite Hotel Ukraina. These include a map of and
information on the Dytynets, but only in Ukrainian.
Getting There & Around
BUS
The best way here from Kyiv is on a marshrutka from Lisova metro station (40uah, two
hours, around every 15 minutes), which drop off outside Hotel Ukraina (on pr Pobedy).
The departure point is across the road. Buses for Novhorod-Siversky leave hourly from
the central bus station (40uah, four hours), located next to the train station.
LOCAL TRANSPORT
The train and bus stations are right next to each other, 2km west of pl Krasna, on pl
Vokzalna. Take trolleybus 3 or 11 or just about any marshrutka to the 'Hotel Ukraina'
stop in the city centre.
TRAIN
The train station comes in handy if you are heading to Belarus, with at least three daily
trains to Gomel (from 63uah to 260uah, three hours) and one or two trains daily to Minsk
(420uah, eight to 12 hours).
