grass-covered mound surrounded by electric pylons is visible from the bus stop. Just
walk straight in that direction along the tarmac road until you find a fairly anatomical slit
in the hill - when you see it, you'll know what we mean! Once inside, look out for small
crosses and the name Kosmae left on the walls by the 2nd-century AD Christians.
Melek-Chesmensky Kurgan BURIAL MOUND
(bus station; admission 5uah; 10.30am-6pm Tue-Sat) Hardly any bus station in the world
can boast a Scythian burial mound on the premises, but there is one in Kerch. Much
smaller than Tsarsky Kurgan, it was the grave of a small boy, thought to be a Bosporan
prince.

though far from perfect, this is easily the best choice for most Westerners. It's a hard-to-
miss high-rise not too far from the town centre with plenty of modern, clean and well-
priced rooms. There's also a good supermarket in the same building. Take marshrutka 3,
5, 6, 19 or 20 to the Bosforsky stop.

with the meaty Central European dishes and Black Sea fish featured on the menu. Ser-
vice is so-so.

an food and all kinds of alcohol.
