Sleeping & Eating
Pretty much every room and house in the city is for rent in summer. You'll find yourself
a bed for 60uah, but expect to pay 300uah to 400uah for a hotel-quality room with hot
water during high season. There is a cluster of pensions on vul Morskaya and nearby
streets that skirt the fortress hill. Cheaper accommodation is found along vul
Ayvazovskogo and elsewhere around town.
Solnechny Zamok GUESTHOUSE$$$
( http://sunny-castle.info ; prov Kolkhozny 11; r 180-740uah) We'd stay in this tiny cute micro-
cosm for the rest of our lives. Hidden from the street, a tiny Oriental garden with a
mountain view is surrounded by tastefully decorated cottages. There is a common kit-
chen and the owner does his best (even though he speaks no English) to organise your
life in hectic Sudak, advising on uncrowded beaches and cheap eateries. Take a taxi as
it's hard to find.

505uah; ) Spread across five buildings below the fortress, with excellent amenities
and prices targeted at differing budgets, this hotel is often fully booked, so plan ahead.
Relatively tasteful modern rooms join an alfresco restaurant, outdoor heated pool and jet
skis for rent.
Perchem HOTEL$$$

13; r from 720uah; ) Designed to resemble a Turkish caravanserai, this Tatar-run
establishment stands behind Perchem (Sugarloaf) mountain, on the road leading to the
Genovese Fortress. There is a large outdoor pool, which comes as a blessing considering
the overcrowding on the beach.
Kunesh GUESTHOUSE$$$
( 095 358 2517, 099 084 4416; http://kunesh.at.ua ; vul Yuzhnoberezhnaya 86; r from 500uah;
) This place is good value for money and popular with foreign travellers, largely be-
cause of the friendly English-speaking host Elzara. You may not find the street on a map,
