from the station, but about 15 minutes on foot to the town centre, this friendly guest-
house is Mukacheve's cheapest snooze pad. The 12 rooms are cosy, if a little scuffed,
there's a sauna downstairs and an adjoining cafe provides sustenance. No breakfast.
Hotel Star HOTEL$$$

neoclassical building opposite the town hall has rug-lined, flagstaff halls and dark
wooden doors leading to spotless rooms with minibar and international satellite TV. The
hotel also has a rather ostentatious restaurant and brews its own beer.

Modelled on Ukraine's No 1 restaurant chain, Puzata Khata, this self-service canteen
cooks up incredibly low-cost Eastern Slavic comfort food - you can easily put together a
three-course meal with drinks for 20uah to 30uah - but without the folksy theme. It's at
the opposite end of vul Pushkina to the town hall.
Getting There & Away
BUS
Services leave every 15 to 20 minutes for Uzhhorod (16uah, one hour) from the bus sta-
tion, 1.5km east of the town centre. There are also at least 10 buses a day to Rakhiv
(60uah, three to five hours).
TRAIN
The train station is on vul Yaroslava Mudroho, 1.5km southwest of the town centre.
Heading eastwards from Mukacheve, four trains a day go to Lviv (90uah, 4½ hours) and
three to Kyiv (170uah, 14½ hours). Heading west, there are at least seven daily
elektrychky (8uah) and mainline trains to Uzhhorod via Chop (where you can pick up in-
ternational services originating in Chop).
