Sighet keep abreast of the latest. They recommend foreigners push to the front of
the queue as searches of locals and their vehicles (border officials are looking for
cigarette and alcohol smugglers) are thorough.
Getting There & Away
BUS
Buses winding over the mountains to and from the north and east connect Rakhiv with
Chernivtsi (75uah, five hours, five daily), Ivano-Frankivsk (45uah, four hours, 13 daily)
and Kolomyya (45uah, 3½ to four hours, six daily). Most of these services go through

Heading west, there are around 15 services to/from Uzhhorod (64uah to 73uah, around

a week go to Prague (540uah); for details, see www.regabus.cz .
TRAIN
Only a handful of daily trains operate to and from Rakhiv's almost completely derelict
terminus: one each way from Ivano-Frankivsk (five hours), one overnight service to Lviv
(80uah, eight hours) and one service to Kolomyya (4½ hours). All of these pass through
Yaremche.
Getting Around
Travelling south from Rakhiv to the Museum of Forest Ecology and the 'Geographical
Centre of Europe' there are around two buses an hour heading for Dilove (6uah, 40
minutes). Heading north, there are marshrutky to Bohdan (14uah, at least hourly week-
days), which will bring you towards the start of the hiking trail to Mt Hoverla. Four
weekday services will drop you in Luhy (7uah), even closer to the trail.
