(Vasyl is involved in Ukraine's embryonic Slow Food movement). The garden between
the two buildings is a lovely spot to relax after a hike.
Sadyba U Erika GUESTHOUSE$
( 215 63; erwin75@mail.ru; vul Bohdana Khmelnytskoho 86; r per person 80uah; ) The
hotchpotch of rooms are more suburban than charmingly folksy here, but there's a
friendly, multilingual atmosphere and the hosts like to prepare Hutsul and Hungarian
meals. Guests are free to use the kitchen. Three internet-enabled computers, a sauna and
a large garden complete the package, but it's a good 20 minutes' walk from the bus sta-
tion - take the first right just before the bridge and keep going to No 86.
Hotel Evropa HOTEL$
( 256 53; www.hotel-europa.com.ua ; vul Myru 42; d 160uah; ) The Evropa offers 15
scuffed, cheaply furnished chambers with bathrooms fitted using the Soviet plumbing
manual. No breakfast, but a small tour company and info centre lurk somewhere in the
building.

spaghetti Bolognese, was available when we visited, though our food arrived mi-
crowaved to the temperature of molten lava. Has a breakfast menu and opens early
enough for it to be relevant.
Information
Rakhiv has no tourist information centre, but the small kiosk ( 10am-6pm Mon-Fri, to
3pm Sat) marked with a green 'i' next to the bridge (which once did serve as a centre but
is now a souvenir shop) is worth a stab for basic info and maps.
