APARTMENTS
As in most Ukrainian cities, apartments are better bang-for-the-buck than hotels.

Eating
Lviv is more famous for cafes than restaurants, but the food scene has seen dramatic de-
velopments in recent years with some weird and wonderful theme restaurants popping up
across the city centre.
Puzata Khata CAFE$

(vul Sichovykh Striltsiv 12; mains 11-25uah; 8am-11pm) This super-sized version of
Ukraine's No 1 restaurant chain stands out for its classy, Hutsul-themed interior and pure
Ukrainian-rock soundtrack. There's another, more tranquil branch at pr Shevchenka 10 .
Celentano PIZZERIA$

(pl Rynok 21; pizza 23-109uah, other mains 12-60uah; 10am-11pm) 'Oh no!', cry those
who've picked their way through Ukraine's culinary wilderness via too many
Celentano's to reach Lviv's tasty delights, but the new Lviv branch of this popular na-
tional chain is a slice above its other stuck-in-the-late-1990s joints. The contemporary in-
terior incorporates chunks of 17th-century architecture and the Apennine fare is delicious
and imaginatively presented.
Lvivski Plyatsky CAFE$

(pl Rynok 13; strudel 23uah, drinks 15uah; 8am-11pm) Sweet and savoury versions of the
strudel, three types of sauce and a simple selection of drinks (this being Lviv, we'd
plump for the coffee) - that's the basic idea behind this tiny, 10-seater tucked beneath
leaping Gothic vaulting on pl Rynok. The rural-themed interior has cheese graters for
lampshades and a definite fixation with the rolling pin.
