Around major sights, especially on Andriyvsky uzviz, there is no shortage of souvenir
stalls selling matryoshka , Soviet army hats and a million kinds of 'this lousy T-shirt'. A
bottle to bring home would be that of horilka (vodka), available at any foodstore.

more symbolic than Kyivsky Tort , a nutty, layered sponge cake sold in circular cardboard
cartons. Its main producer has a chain of immaculate shops, including this one by the
train station and another outlet at vul Kreshchatyk 29 (
8am-10pm) . They are filled to
the top shelf with all kinds of sweets.
Experiment 12 ARTS & CRAFTS

of modern Ukrainian design, where you can buy random objects - from lamps to plates
or clothes - produced by aspiring Ukrainian artists. Comes with a nice cafe.

teddy bears, produced by Ukrainian artists. Some bears are just cute, some are dressed as
Cossacks, some look like they hail from outlying galaxies.
Petrivka Market MARKET
(pr Moskovsky; 8am-6pm; Petrivka) Locals call it the 'book market', but you can get a
vast array of junk here. It's also Kyiv's main receptacle of DVDs, CDs and software of
questionable legitimacy.
Kartografia MAPS
(vul Chervonoarmiyska 69;
Olympiyska) A good selection of maps can be found in this
centrally located shop.
