AMERICANDIPPER Also called water ouzels, these birds are seen year-round in the
Narrows at Zion National Park, where they dive into the Virgin River in search of
aquatic insects. Mostly slate-gray, with a stocky build, short tail, and wings, they
run along the river bottom underwater, and in shallow areas appear to be water-
skiing on the surface.
