Stateless Caching Mode
Unless your ESXi host hardware does not have any local disks or bootable SAN storage, we
would recommend considering one of the two other Auto Deploy modes. These modes offer
resiliency for your hosts if at any time the Auto Deploy services become unavailable.
To con i gure Stateless Caching, follow the previous procedure for Stateless with these
additions:
1. Within vCenter, navigate to the Host Proi les section: vCenter
Home
Host Proi les.
2. Create a new host proi le or edit the existing one attached to your host.
3. Navigate to System Image Cache Coni guration under Advanced Coni guration Settings.
4. Select Enable Stateless Caching On The Host.
5. Input the disk coni guration details, using the same disk syntax as listed earlier in the
section “Performing an Unattended Installation of VMware ESXi.” By default it will pop-
ulate the i rst available disk, as you can see in Figure 2.10.
6. Click Finish to end the Host Proi le Wizard.
7. Next you need to coni gure the boot order in the host BIOS to boot from the network i rst,
and the local disk second. This procedure will differ depending on your server type.
8. Reboot the host to allow a fresh Auto Deploy image and the new host proi le will be
attached.
This coni guration tells the ESXi host to take the Auto Deploy image loaded in memory and
save it to the local disk after a successful boot. If for some reason the network or Auto Deploy
server is unavailable when your host reboots, it will fall back and boot the cached copy on its
local disk.
