vCenter server. Select VMware vCenter Server Installation and click Next.
7. If you selected to integrate the install with a vCenter instance, as described in the previ-
ous step, you will now enter the vCenter details and appropriate account credentials.
After you click Next, the installer will ask you to verify the server's SSL certii cate. Click
Yes to accept the certii cate.
8. Accept the default port settings and click Next.
9. The next screen allows you to choose how the Syslog Collector should be addressed
by the hosts on the network. You can pick between hostname or IP address. Using the
hostname has the advantage that it is easily recognizable by administrators during
troubleshooting, but it relies on name resolution. If the Windows server has multiple IP
addresses, then you need to pick one that the hosts can route to. Like the Dump Collector
service, the Syslog Collector service will only bind to IPv4 addresses.
10. Click Install.
11. Click Finish to complete the installation.
12. If you selected to integrate the installation with a vCenter installation, log into the
vSphere Client and check that it is registered. In the Client's home screen, under
Administration, click the Network Syslog Collector icon. Figure 4.44 shows a coni gured
Syslog Collector with a couple of hosts already connected to it.
