In-Depth Information
Once the EULA has been accepted, the wizard asks you to specify what type of coni guration
you would like. The options presented here are as follows:
Coni gure With Default Settings This option is the simplest form of setup where a local
database is used for vCenter.
Update From Previous Version As the name suggests, this coni guration option is to be
used when upgrading an existing vCenter Server virtual appliance.
Upload Coni guration File If you have a previously coni gured vCenter Server vir-
tual appliance, you can save the coni guration and then upload it during setup to ensure
consistency.
Set Custom Coni guration Custom coni guration is where you are able to manually specify
all aspects of the setup through the rest of the wizard.
Select Set Custom Coni guration and click Next to coni gure the database connection.
Confi guring the Database
Like the Windows Server-based version of vCenter Server, the vCenter Server virtual appli-
ance requires a backend database in order to function properly. The virtual appliance supports
Oracle and a local embedded database.
To con i gure the database settings, click the vCenter Server tab on the VMware vCenter
Server Appliance web administration screen, and then select Database. From there, you'll have
an option to select Embedded or Oracle. As mentioned previously, Microsoft SQL Server is not
supported for use with the virtual appliance.
The instructions provided previously for coni guring Oracle are still applicable; you need to
perform those steps before you coni gure the database connection. Once the database has been
properly coni gured, you can specify the database name, server, port, username, and password
to use when connecting.
When you've coni gured your database settings accordingly, click Next to move on to the
SSO settings.
Setting Up Single Sign-On
Like the database settings in the previous section, the vCenter Server virtual appliance has the
ability to use an embedded copy of SSO or utilize an existing external SSO instance. Use the
drop-down to select the type of SSO instance.
To complete this form you will need to enter the following information:
Username and password for the vCenter to SSO registration
Account to be allocated as vCenter administrator
The lookup service location URL
Also, if the database is external to the vCenter Server virtual appliance, you need the follow-
ing information:
DB server
Port
