galleries. For example, you can export a Web gallery today, and then upload it
to a server next week. (If you have a dedicated ftp p rogram, this might be the
fastest/easiest way to upload Lightroom galleries to your server.)

Lightroom Web galleries also make great ol ine presentations, even without
an Internet connection. For example, I've produced some ef ective disc-based
galleries using this method: I make Web galleries and burn them to disc for
delivery to clients, galleries and prospective vendors. Simply export the gallery
to your desktop, then burn it to a cd o r dvd . From the disc, people can then
open your gallery index page in the browser on their own computer, and
navigate the gallery, just as if it was delivered from a Web server.
To accomplish this, click the
Web module's Export button at
the bottom of the right panel
group (see Figure 7-19). A
dialog box appears, asking
you to choose the location
and name for the new folder
that will contain all the gallery
i les. Enter a name and click
Save. Lightroom will generate
all the necessary i les for the
Web gallery you've created,
including all the i les and subfolders required to run the gallery from within the
folder specii ed, using relative links (see below).

About relative hyperlinks
By default, the links that Lightroom generates are always relative to each i le.
In other words, all the pages in the Web gallery are linked relative to each
other. h is allows viewing the gallery without an Internet connection, and the
presentation looks and works just the same as if it was being accessed from
a Web server. h is also means that if you change the folders or i les at er the
gallery has been generated, the links will be broken.
Making changes to Web gallery links requires you to either generate a
new gallery, or use dedicated Web development sot ware (such as Adobe
Dreamweaver) to modify the i les.
You can include a link to a standalone Web site from any Lightroom gallery,
including those that are disc-based, as long as you use a full ur l, inc luding
http://.
