COLLECTING PHOTOS FOR THE PRINT JOB
Whether you're making your own prints or preparing i les for a lab, you'll want
to spend a little time in Library organizing the photos you want to print. You
can use a collection (which I normally do), or a Folder.
6
h e Print module includes the Collections panel on the let panel group.
You can make a new Print Collection by selecting photos from the Filmstrip,
clicking the + button on the Collections panel header, and selecting “Create
Print” from the popup menu. h is creates a new Print Collection that displays a
special icon and is accessible also from the other modules (see Figure 6-1).

Also, in the Filmstrip you can choose images for printing by selecting or
deselecting them. In the Toolbar, you then have the option to print all the
images in the chosen source, or just the selected ones, by choosing the
appropriate option from the Use: popup menu (see Figure 6-2).

Use virtual copies for printing
When you need to adjust a photo to meet the criteria of a particular print
job, using a virtual copy (vc) is a good idea. h ere are many print situations
where using vcs can streamline your process. And in general, once you have
“i nished” a master photo and applied all the adjustments to make it look
the way you want, any further modii cations for specii c purposes (such as
printing) should be done using vcs. From your i nished master i les, make
virtual copies for dif erent print jobs. You can adjust the size or cropping of the
photos dif erently, apply adjustments specii cally for the printing conditions,
add unique identity plates, etc.
Using vcs, your work can be economically retained for future use, or you can
delete it when you're done. h rough it all, your master i le is never altered. You
can return to it to make new derivative vcs later as needed.
