Step 3. Coni gure the remaining options for the i les to be exported and
burned, taking even more care than usual, because a disc will be burned even if
your i le settings are incorrect!

Step 4. Click the Export button, or press Return/Enter. If you don't already have
a blank, writable cd/d vd in t he writer, Lightroom will prompt you when it's
time to insert one.
EMAILING PHOTOS
When you want to send photos to someone by email, you have a few options:
1. Do a regular export of jpg i les, saving them somewhere on your hard
disk, then attach them to the message in your email program; or
2. Use Lightroom to help streamline the process through plug-ins or
post-processing actions. In this case, you don't need to export the
i les separately; the post-processing script will handle that. h er e are
a couple of email plug-ins for Windows: MapiMailer and Export to
Email (both can be found on the Plug-In Exchange Web site). h ey
both create jpgs and attach them to your message. MapiMailer opens a
new message in your email client; with Export to Email you can enter
your SMTP mail information and your message within the program.
When installed, both plug-ins show up in the “Export to” menu.
Lightroom provides a built-in export preset for emailing i les. However, in my
opinion, this preset is not very useful as-is; it serves best as an example starting
point for how you might coni gure your own settings for this purpose. (For
example, the built-in email preset doesn't include an email program as a post-
processing function; you need to add your email program yourself.)
USING LIGHTROOM FOR FILE COPIES
One of the most basic applications for Lightroom's capabilities might be
copying batches of i les. h ere are likely to be many occasions where you need
to make copies of image i les, whether for yourself or someone else. Lightroom
exports are very good for this.
EXPORT IMAGES FOR COPYRIGHT SUBMISSION
For most photographers, registering photographs with the U.S. Library of
Congress is an essential activity. I recommend that at least once per year you
export i nished photos from Lightroom to submit to the copyright oi ce. h e
easiest way to do this is to export small jpgs and burn them to disc—you can
submit many i les to the copyright oi ce using just one form. You can also use
the online registration system at http://www.copyright.gov.
