Renaming Photos
Renaming photos in Lightroom also always renames the image i les on disk (see
Figure 3-11). Renaming i les is something you should consider carefully. If a
batch of images is improperly named, you should rename the i les correctly as
early as possible in the workl ow. Use the menu command or shortcut to open the
Rename Files dialog box. Select Custom Name from the File Naming drop-down
menu and enter the name in the Custom Text i eld or use one of the other i le
naming presets.

If you do your i le naming at er the Import, rename the photos at er you remove
any rejects. Along with other potential workl ow advantages, this helps keep your
numbering sequence unbroken.
File naming templates
One of Lightroom's most useful batch
processing capabilities is renaming i les.
With i le naming templates you can set
up a standardized base i le name using
whatever conventions you prefer. h e
templates are then used to rename i les
during import, or later in the Library
module.
