Attractions & Activities
The main attraction for many of Porto Santo's visitors are the nine kilometres of golden
beach and the golf course which was designed by Spanish golfer, Seve Ballesteros. There
are numerous activities to enjoy along the coastline including diving, snorkelling, wind-
surfing, water skiing, and fishing, as well as inland activities such as horse riding, hiking,
cycling, and mountain biking. The capital of the island is Vila Baleira, a quaint town with
cobbled streets and little squares which comes alive during tourist season. There are also
a couple of interesting attractions on the island; the Casa de Cristopher Columbus which
is where the explorer lived during his time on the island, and the Church of Our Lady of
