The religious capital of Portugal, the Baroque city of Braga has almost four dozen places of
worship, attracting throngs of visitors every Easter for the Semana Santa. However, Braga
isn't simply about religion with the ecclesiastical architecture contrasted by the contempor-
ary streets lined with chic boutiques, classy cafés, and modern bars. The large university
provides the city with an influx of students, creating a lively atmosphere during the school
season, but escape is also nearby in the form of the beautiful Peneda-Gerês National Park.
