Packed with historic treasures and landmarks such as the Roman Temple of Évora, there
is no shortage of attractions in Evora. Just a few kilometres outside the city walls are
two prehistoric monuments; the Anta Grande do Zambujerio and the Cromeleque dos Al-
mendres. Within the city walls, religious buildings such as the Sé, Evora's main cathedral
which contains a museum packed with treasures and superb cloisters, the Chapel of São
Brás, a 15 th Century Mudejar-Gothic church, and Church of Saint Francis, with its Gothic-
Manueline styles are just a sample of the magnificent architecture on display. Palaces from
throughout the last millennia also dot the cityscape including the Royal Palace built in a
Gothic-Renaissance style, the Palace of the Counts of Basto displaying several architectur-
al styles, and the Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval built from the remains of a 12 th Century
castle.
