HQX: Macintosh Projector file where the data is converted to ASCII
format for better portability between systems.
HTML: Hypertext Markup Language uses tags and special encoding
to create files that can be posted and displayed on the web and
read by web browsers.
.ico: File extension used by files that display as icons on PC systems.
image: An image in Captivate can be any graphic or picture that you
use in your movie. Valid image formats are JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG,
BMP, ICO, EMF, and WMF.
JPG or JPEG: Joint Photographic Experts Group format for images.
This format is often used for web-based graphics.
LMS: Learning management system. A learning management system
is software used to plan, implement, and assess learning pro-
cesses. Different commercial LMS implementations will have
different components (such as monitoring student progress, dis-
cussion lists, or even video conferencing).
Macintosh Projector file: Captivate creates this type of file with the
.hqx extension so that it can be played on Macintosh systems,
even though it was created on a Windows-based system.
MP3: MPEG format audio file using a compression scheme called
audio layer 3.
pass rate: In e-learning applications, the total of correct answers
required to “pass” a course. In Captivate, this can be expressed as
a percentage or a raw number.
PENS: Package Exchange Notification Services, a type of update noti-
fication protocol standard created by the AICC (Aviation Industry
CBT Committee) and used by many learning management
systems.
PNG: Portable Network Graphic, a highly transportable image format.
POT: PowerPoint Template format.
PowerPoint: A widely used presentation software program from
Microsoft.
Questionmark Perception: A web-based assessment delivery system
widely used for computer-assisted evaluation of courses.
