In-Depth Information
click box: A click box indicates an area on the screen that the viewer
should click with the mouse. You can emulate the functionality of
buttons or links within a Captivate movie by creating a click box
over the button and specifying a destination file that will be dis-
played when the viewer clicks the click box.
compression: A method of reducing the size of a file using an algorithm
to remove unneeded bits. Compression reduces file size, but can
also reduce file quality.
.cp: The extension used for Captivate project files.
e-learning: Short for electronic learning, this is a growing field that
encompasses distance learning, computer-based training,
web-based training, and a variety of other education delivery
mechanisms. Instructor input is minimal or nonexistent at the
time the learner is actually taking the training, and thus must be
integrated up front during design and development phases.
e-learning also usually has an electronic or automated grading or
evaluation component.
EMF: Enhanced Metafile format for Microsoft Windows graphics.
EXE: An executable file that runs a program or performs an action.
filmstrip: A representation of all of the slides in the movie that displays
along one edge of the screen in Edit view.
Flash: A multimedia authoring program from Adobe that creates ani-
mations and movies. This term is also used to refer to the output
of the Flash software or any other output that is compatible with
the Flash Player (such as Captivate movies).
frames: In movie jargon, a frame is a single image that, when combined
and played with other images, creates the illusion of movement on
a screen. In Captivate, each slide is a frame that has additional
functionality such as animations, click boxes, timing components,
etc.
FTP: File transfer protocol that allows you to transfer information from
one computer to another over a TCP/IP network.
GIF: Graphics interchange format for graphics, often used for web
delivery because of its compression and small file size.
highlight box: A graphic on a slide that highlights a particular area,
usually with colored borders and a partially transparent fill color.
