Chapter 10
Creating e-Learning

Content
In the previous chapter, you learned how to add interactive elements
to a slide and how to display different captions or continue on to differ-
ent slides based on whether or not the viewer performed certain tasks
correctly. Taking this one step further, Captivate can store the results
of all those interactive tasks, making the entire movie into a quiz that
you can automatically grade and score and even integrate into other
learning management systems.
Captivate also offers a powerful, easy-to-use feature called a ques-
tion slide that automatically creates interactive slides in a variety of
question formats, such as multiple choice, true or false, or short
answer. Like the other interactive elements, you can specify what dis-
plays when the viewer gets a question right or wrong. And like the
other interactive elements, questions can be included in quizzes.
Captivate quizzing functions let you define quiz properties that
apply to all interactive elements as well as to dedicated question
slides. You can even set up a question pool so that the questions that
display in the finished movie will vary from viewer to viewer. You can
define the defaults for elements such as “Try again” messages or the
appearance of “Next” and “Submit” buttons. You can also export the
results of any quiz to a learning management system.
Before you begin to create questions and quizzes, you'll need to
make some basic decisions:
Decide what you want the viewer to do and what format you want
to use to request the viewer input. There are two ways to get and
store input from the viewer:
