Changing the Timing of Elements
on a Slide
When Captivate creates the Flash movie from your slides, each slide is
displayed for a set length of time. The elements on each slide display
in turn, also for a set length of time. You can create a wide variety of
effects for your movie by modifying the length of time that each ele-
ment displays and specifying when the element should appear on the
slide.
There are two main functions that determine the length of time
that a slide and the elements on it are displayed.
Transitions set the way that an element appears on the slide and
how the element is removed from the slide when the set element
timing expires.
Timing determines the length of time that each element is dis-
played and the delay, if any, between the display of the slide and
the start of the element display. Timing can be set either through
the element properties or with a unique Captivate tool called the
timeline. This is a visual representation of the elements on a slide,
placed along a graph that represents the total length of time the
slide is displayed. It is very similar to the Flash Timeline, with
most (though not all) of the same features.
