Readers have informed me to beware of Hotel Casablanca (formerly known as Los
Peches), on Playa Sur fronting the lakeshore. It appears there have been alleged instances
of bag pilfering while guests are away on day trips.

run operation in a three-story building where rooms have cable TV and ceiling fan. Rooms
with private bath are $17 d; two rooms with shared bath go for $13. Hotel Posada de la

peten.com ) offers fan-cooled rooms for $13 d or air-conditioned rooms for $30 d. All have
private bath and basic furnishings, including a bedside table and chairs. Internet service is
