A good place for a drink and some decent music is Bok'atas (4a Calle 3-34 Zona 2, tel.

air tapas bar. There is live music some weekends and it serves Mediterranean (Spanish)
food. Bar Milenio (3a Avenida 1-11 Zona 4, no cover charge) caters mostly to an older
crowd, serves food, and has pool tables and TV screens to watch sports. The fanciest place

where the music is a mix of mostly Latin tunes catering to a high-class clientele.

SHOPPING
Plaza Magdalena Shopping Mall (1a Calle 15-20 Zona 2) is where you can go to find
First World goods you might need while on the road or indulge in a fast-food binge at
McDonald's. Run by a handicrafts cooperative, Aj K'uubanel (Diagonal 4, 5-13 Zona 2,
tel. 7951-4152) has a variety of textiles, maize and wax art, and silver jewelry for sale.
RECREATION
Cobánhasavarietyofnearbyattractionsthatcanbevisitedinonedayaswellasnumerous
outfitters that can get you there. Popular day trips include the Semuc Champey pools and
the Lanquín caves. Although these can certainly be done in a day, they are worth a stay
of at least one night, as there are comfortable accommodations and plenty to see and do. If
you have the time, stay overnight in Lanquín.
Other day-trip options include the Quetzal Biotope, Chicoy cave, and Chixim church,
all south of Cobán.
North of town, along Km. 24 on the road heading to Chisec, is the Sachichaj waterfall,
another increasingly popular attraction. Most of the following tour operators can get you
there.

sites and adventurous options in destinations farther afield, including rappelling in the
Bombil it Pek caves near Chisec, backdoor treks to Semuc Champey, and trips to Lagunas
de Sepalau. This is the place to contact for caving, trekking, inner tubing, and kayaking,
