In a large building on the southeast corner of the plaza is the similarly priced Plaza
Copán (tel. 651-4508, www.plazacopanhotel.com , $57-63 d), where well-furnished rooms
have tile floors, air-conditioning, minifridge, TV, and private hot-water bathroom. There
are a restaurant and small swimming pool. The town's fanciest accommodations are
found at Hotel Marina Copán (tel. 651-4070/71, 877/893-9131 toll-free U.S.,
www.hotelmarinacopan.com , $92-145 d, including breakfast), built in the old family home
of Doña Marina Welchez about 60 years ago. There are standard rooms and suites; all
rooms have cable TV, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, and telephone. Amenities include a
sauna,gym,swimmingpool,bar,andtheexcellentGlifo'srestaurant. Hotel Don Udo's
(tel. 651-4533, www.donudos.com , $50-80 d) scores major points for atmosphere with
comfortable tiled-floor rooms tastefully decorated with Guatemalan furnishings and ac-
cents centered around a delightful garden courtyard. There are rooms with or without air-
conditioning and TV; all have fan and private hot-water bath. Some bathrooms have a tub.
There'salobbyloungewhereyoucanwatchDVDs.Alternatively,youcanrelaxinasauna
or the whirlpool tub. The restaurant here is highly recommended.
Outside of Town
On the outskirts of Copán Ruinas are a variety of excellent lodging options. On a pleasant
hilltop setting overlooking town is Posada Real de Copán (tel. 651-4480/81/82,

equipped with purified tap water, air-conditioning, and cable TV, and with a swimming
pool, two bars, and a restaurant. You may hear about Hacienda San Lucas (tel.

your arrival in town, as it has a well-earned reputation for excellent service. The fantastic
accommodations are set on a renovated 100-year-old hacienda, the brainchild of Honduran
Flavia Cueva. The lodge's eight rooms, spread about the beautifully landscaped grounds,
manage to be comfortable and yet stylishly rustic at the same time. At night, candles
provide additional atmosphere. Enjoy a drink and watch the sunset over the Copán Valley
