ovascular equipment, free weights, and some weight-lifting machines. La Fábrica (Calle
del Hermano Pedro #16, tel. 7832-0486) also has cardiovascular machines and weights in
addition to aerobics and martial arts.
SPAS AND YOGA
Casa Madeleine (Calle del Espíritu Santo #69, tel. 7832-9348, www.casamadeleine.com )
offers complete spa packages along with its swanky boutique accommodations. Services
include massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, mud therapy, pedicures, manicures, and deep
facial treatments. Skin Deep (1a Avenida Sur #15, tel. 7832-7182, 8 A.M.-8 P.M. daily) is
a well-run day spa and salon housed in the same building as Café Sky offering the usual
assortment of spa services in a pleasing environment.
There are quality yoga classes by trained U.S. instructors available in Antigua. Yo-
gAntigua (tel. 5251-4809, lizzieyogini@ gmail.com) offers classes every morning inside
Galería Panza Verde (5a Avenida Sur # 19) and afternoons at Antigua Center (7a Calle
Poniente #11, Mon. and Thurs. at 5 P.M.). Vinyasa and Hatha yoga and classes start at $6
for drop-in or $50 for a 10-class pass.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Antigua's mountain terrain and the variety of trails traversing it make mountain biking a
popular recreational activity. Old Town Outfitters (5a Avenida Sur #12C, tel. 5339-0440,
www.bikeguatemala.com , $35 half day) is a highly recommended outfitter offering rides
for all skill levels. Half-day options include easy rides in the Almolonga Valley or in and
around a coffee plantation to edge-of-your seat single-track rides careening down volcan-
ic slopes or along narrow mountain ridges with fantastic views. Its equipment is top-notch
and well cared for. Guatemala Ventures (1a Avenida Sur #15, end of 6a Calle Oriente,
tel. 7832-3383, www.guatemalaventures.com ) is another recommended outfitter for tack-
ling the rugged terrain around Antigua by mountain bike. It also rents out mountain bikes
for $8 a day. Both companies also offer a lot of other recreational options in addition to
mountain biking, as you'll see by the frequency with which they are mentioned here.
HIKING
There is no shortage of rugged hiking trails for enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery
andpeacefulmountainvillagesfoundnearAntigua.Thesamerecommendedmountainbik-
ing outfitters can point you to the best hiking trails. A guide is highly recommended, as
