Figure 9 Distance tree showing the relationships of enzymes of the NtaA/SnaA/SoxA(DszA)
family of enzymes including DmoA homologues deduced using the neighbor joining algorithm
implemented in A using PAM correction. The tree is based on alignment positions present in
the DmoA of Hyphomicrobium sulfonivorans (alignment positions 58 to 528). Bootstrap values
are given for 100 replicates. SsuD, alkanesulfonate monooxygenase; MsuE, methanesulfonate
monooxygenase; DszA, dibenzothiophene sulfone monooxygenase; P2A synthase, pristinamycin
IIA synthase subunit A; NtaA, nitrilotriacetate monooxygenase.
genes encoding DmoA homologues were also associated with other alkanesulfonate
monooxygenases and flavin oxidoreductases while dmoA homologues in Rothia
strains are in close proximity to predicted sulfonate transporters. Overall, these
findings suggest that some of the homologues of DmoA are likely to have a role in
organosulfur compound degradation, but their substrate specificity and catalytic
role remains to be investigated.
