3.1.4.3 Melting ranges
All of the Keggin clusters synthesized yielded an ionic liquid with Q 7 or Q 8 as the
counterion and with d-elements having a two (e.g. Cu II , Mn II ) or three times (e.g. Cr III ,
Fe III ) positive charge. With alkyl chains on the tetraalkylammonium ions shorter than
seven carbon atoms (Q n n < 7) the product was obtained as a solid at room
temperature. Table 5 gives a general overview of the charges and the products melting
ranges.
