ENTERTAINMENT AND EVENTS
Nightlife
Frantic Follies is one of many vaudeville revues along the route north to Alaska that is
styled on the stage shows that entertained stampeders back in the days of the Klondike Gold
Rush. The Follies are performed nightly at the Westmark Whitehorse (201 Wood St., 867/
668-2042, nightly at 8:30pm June-Aug., adult $24, child $11).
Whitehorse has no lack of rowdy bars, and none are as popular as “The Cap” (in the
Capital Hotel, 103 Main St., 867/667-2565), which is music central, with rock bands sev-
en nights a week. Yukon Brewing Company (102 Copper Rd., 867/668-4183, 11am-6pm
daily) is the only brewery in the territory. Free tours (with samples) are offered at 2pm
Mon.-Sat. year round, with additional tours at noon and 4pm in summer. These brews are
available throughout Canada, but they are also available in the brewery shop, along with
many beer-themed souvenirs.
Festivals and Events
One of the Yukon's biggest events is the Yukon Quest ( www.yukonquest.com ) a
1,600-kilometer (1,000-mile) dog-mushing race between Whitehorse and Fairbanks held
each February. As the race is winding down, Whitehorse spins into action with the Frost-
bite Music Festival (867/668-4921, www.frostbitefest.ca ), featuring an eclectic mix of
concerts, dances, and workshops highlighting Canada's thriving independent music in-
dustry.
