MacBride Museum
Three blocks north of the Yukon Visitor Information Centre is the excellent MacBride
Museum (1124 1st Ave. at Wood St., 867/667-2709, 9:30am-5pm daily in summer daily,
10am-4pm Tues.-Sat. the rest of the year, adult $10, child $5). The main building is a sod-
roofed log cabin filled with historical items, including stuffed Yukon wildlife and hundreds
of Gold-Rush photographs. Surrounding it are other buildings and equipment: the old gov-
ernment telegraph office, engine No. 51 from the White Pass & Yukon Route, Sam McGee's
cabin, and even a one-ton copper nugget.
Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre
Continuing north two blocks from the MacBride Museum, it's difficult to miss the archi-
tecturally striking Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre (1171 1st Ave., 867/456-5322, 9am-5pm
daily June-early Sept., Mon.-Fri. only the rest of the year, free). Built entirely of local wood
and providing a place for the Kwanlin Dun First Nation to showcase their art and culture,
the hallways are filled with First Nations art and sculptures while other rooms are dedicat-
ing to changing exhibits.
