In-Depth Information
It's all about the very freshest seafood at M Dolly's Restaurant (7 Cow Bay Rd., 250/
624-6090, 10am-9pm daily, $9-20), which is part of a fish market. It's a small dining room,
but the choices are all delicious—halibut and chips, halibut nuggets and sweet potato fries,
Dungeness crab cakes, Caesar salad topped with smoked sockeye salmon, and creamy sea-
food chowder. You can also buy fresh seafood to go as well as smoked and canned seafood.
Ask a local where to go for seafood and the answer is invariably Smile's Seafood Cafe
(113 Cow Bay Rd., 250/624-3072, 10am-10pm daily July-Aug., 11:30am-8pm daily the
rest of the year, $14-30), although judging from my last couple of visits, its glory days are
behind it. This diner-style café, decorated with black-and-white fishing photos and colored-
glass floats, has been serving seafood since 1934. Most of the seafood is deep-fried, but that
doesn't seem to deter the throngs of local fishermen, residents, and visitors no matter what
time of day.
