of downtown (reached via Highway 16). More demanding is Terrace Mountain Nature
Trail, a five-kilometer (3.1-mile) trail providing great views of the city and the surrounding
area. It takes about two hours round-trip, since much of it is uphill. Start at the intersection
of Halliwell Avenue and Anderson Street (by the Heritage Park Museum), climbing the
lower slopes of Terrace Mountain to a clearing where views are best, then descending to
town at the end of Johnstone Street. Farther afield, consider scenic Clearwater Lakes
Trail, which begins from Highway 37, 27 kilometers (16.8 miles) south of Terrace. The
trail leads 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles) to Little Clearwater Lake, then another 700 meters (0.4
mile) to Big Clearwater Lake. The two lakes are linked by a shallow creek, along the banks
of which are many good picnic spots and berries to pick in season.
