Wild, remote northern British Columbia extends from the Yellowhead Highway (Highway
16) north to the 60th parallel. Its mostly forested landscape is broken by two major moun-
tain ranges—the Rockies and the Coast Mountains—and literally thousands of lakes, rivers,
and streams. Wildlife is abundant here; the land is home to moose, deer, black and grizzly
bears, elk, Dall's sheep, and mountain goats.
The region's largest city is Prince George, a forestry and service center 780 kilometers
