ACCOMMODATIONS AND CAMPING
You won't find quaint or memorable here. Instead, expect reliable motels serving the needs
of highway travelers. On the western approach to the city, many newer motels offer clean
and comfortable rooms but no particular bargains. The top end of Columbia Street West has
some unspectacular older motels for travelers on a budget.
$50-100
It's nothing to write home about, but the Fountain Motel (506 Columbia St., 250/374-4451
or 888/253-1569, $70-82 s or d) offers a higher standard of rooms than the exterior may
suggest, with a few kitchenettes available. The best of other similarly priced choices along
a wide sweeping bend of Columbia Street West between the Trans-Canada Highway and
downtown is the Sagebrush Motel (660 Columbia St. W., 250/372-3151, $69 s, $84 d).
This place has air-conditioned rooms, each with a coffeemaker and biggish TV, as well as
an adjacent restaurant open daily from 7am.
$100-150
Just off the highway near the west side access to downtown, Accent Inn Kamloops (1325
Columbia St. W., 250/374-8877 or 800/663-0298, www.accentinns.com , $139 s, $149 d)
offers modern and spacious rooms, with guests having use of an outdoor pool, a hot tub,
and a fitness room. Other pluses include a national paper delivered to your door and free
wireless Internet.
Right downtown is The Plaza Hotel (405 Victoria St., 250/377-8075 or 877/977-5292,
www.theplazahotel.ca , $159-169 s or d includes breakfast), first opened in 1928 as one the
interior's finest accommodations. Its restoration and opening as a boutique hotel is more re-
cent, and the last major revamp was completed in 2012. The 67 rooms feature rich woods, a
heritage color scheme, comfortable beds covered in plush duvets, and free wireless Internet.
The Fireside Steakhouse and Bar are at street level.
