GETTING THERE
Revelstoke is on the Trans-Canada Highway, 152 kilometers (95 miles) west of Golden and
560 kilometers (350 miles) northeast of Vancouver. Greyhound buses come through Revel-
stoke four to seven times daily in both directions along the Trans-Canada Highway. The
depot is by the Sandman Inn (1899 Fraser Dr., 250/837-5874).
West Toward Kamloops
Continuing west along the Trans-Canada Highway from Revelstoke, it's 62 kilometers (39
miles) to the next town, Sicamous, then 42 kilometers (26 miles) farther to the much larger
center of Salmon Arm. The first stop along the way should be intriguingly black Summit
Lake, lying in a heavily forested ravine and fed by a waterfall that plunges over a cliff face
high above. A few kilometers farther west is similarly black Victor Lake, also fed by a wa-
terfall. Shoreside Victor Lake Provincial Park makes a good spot for a picnic.
THREE VALLEY
Several attractions on the next stretch of road compete for your tourist dollar. On the
shore of Three Valley Lake is the difficult-to-miss Three Valley Gap “ghost” town (250/
837-2109, 8am-dusk daily mid-Apr.-early Oct., adult $12, senior $10, child $5), a rebuilt
pioneer community with more than 20 historic buildings moved to the site from around the
province. Part of the same complex is Three Valley Lake Chateau (250/837-2109 or 888/
667-2109, www.3valley.com , Apr.-mid-Oct., $127-147 s or d), a large motel (200 rooms)
overlooking extensive gardens and the lake. Amenities include a café, a restaurant, and an
indoor pool. Standard rooms top out at $147, but some are designed especially for families
($177 for a room that sleeps two adults and four children) while The Cave—complete with
real stone walls, roof, fireplace, and bathroom—is $275 s or d.
The next commercial attraction, eight kilometers (five miles) west, is Enchanted Forest
(250/837-9477, 9am-5pm daily May.-mid-Oct., until 8pm in July and Aug., adult $10, child
