RECREATION
In summer, recreation revolves around the national park, the local golf course (250/
837-4276), and the Columbia River. In winter, an expanding alpine resort draws the visitors.
One of the most attractive things about Revelstoke in winter are the prices, with local ac-
commodations combining with the resort to offer some of the best-priced packages to be
found anywhere in Canada.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Famed for its powder snow, Revelstoke Mountain Resort (250/837-4675,
www.revelstokemountainresort.com ) is anchored by an eight-person gondola and a high-
speed quad, which combine to provide a vertical rise of 1,713 meters (5,620 feet)—North
America's highest. Lift tickets are a reasonable adult $80, senior and youth 13-18 $61, child
6-12 $28, under five ski free
Nestled between the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains, Revelstoke is also the center
of much heli-skiing. Selkirk Tangiers Heli-skiing (250/837-5378 or 800/663-7080,
www.selkirk-tangiers.com ) operates from town, offering day trips for $800-900 and all-in-
clusive packages—including heli-skiing (over 30,000 meters/100,000 feet vertical), accom-
modations (at the Coast Hillcrest Resort Hotel), and meals. Prices range from $2,655 for
three days in December to $8,900 for seven days in February.
Water Sports
Revelstoke Aquatic Centre (600 Campbell Ave., 250/837-9351, 6:30am-9pm Mon.-Fri.,
10am-8pm Sat., noon-8pm Sun., adult $6.50, senior $5, child $350) is an excellent facility
comprising multiple indoor saltwater pools, waterslides, a slow-moving “lazy river,” and a
climbing wall built over one pool.
ENTERTAINMENT
In July and August, free entertainment takes place nightly at the Grizzly Plaza band shell,
at the bottom end of Mackenzie Avenue. Whether it be comedy or country, crowds of up
to a couple hundred gather, sitting in plastic chairs, snagging a table at a surrounding res-
taurant, or just standing in the background. For music and dancing of a more formal nature,
the young crowd heads for Big Eddy Inn (2108 Big Eddy Rd., 250/837-9072, from 11am
daily). Downtown in the Regent Inn (112 1st St., 250/837-2107), you'll find live music or
a DJ Wednesday-Saturday at the River City Pub, and plenty of quiet corners at the more
subdued Traverse Lounge.
